Johnon Valley Meetings

Due to the low turn outs during the mini clean-ups. Clean dezert has decided to focus our energy in a new direction. We would like to ask everyone to schedule their time to try and make one of the following meetings regarding the Johnson Valley land closures. We all need to show our support for the land. Many of us being racers would be devistated if they closed all of Johnson Valley. This is exactly what they are proposing to do. We would no longer have camp rock road, or bessimer mine race courses open. The same courses that we use for our beloved MDR night race. So please find a meeting you can attend and be there to do your part.

We will also be trying to set up carpools from OC, IE and possibly SD for anyone who is interested.

The Meetings will be as folllows:
1. Wed. December 3, 2009, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Twentynine Palms, CA;
Location: Twentynine Palms Junior High School, Hay's Gym,
5798 Utah Trail, Twentynine Palms, CA;

2. Thurs. December 4, 2009, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Victorville, CA;
Location: Hilton Garden Inn Victorville,
12603 Mariposa Road, Victorville, CA;

3. Fri. December 5, 2009, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Ontario, CA.
Location: Convention Center, 2000 E. Convention Center Way, Ontario, CA.

Sorry if this is an inconvience for anyone. However this is something we strongly believe in trying to keep open. While cleaning the desert is a great way to do our part. We feel this is something that NEEDS to be done. Please show up and speak your mind.

Save Johnson Valley

Many of you know Johnson Valley from the MDR Night race, or from going on desert trips to Bessimer Mine Road or Camp Rock Road. Well these areas are in serious need of attention. The Marines want to expand thier base from 29 palms and take over these areas. Now is our time to step up and respond and let people know we are not okay with this...

Please do your part and print and send in this sheet to the address marked on it.

Please write down "I demand the BLM deny the Withdrawl Application the US Marine Corps have submitted for Johnson Valley and I opposed and westerly expansion of the base." Throw in how much you use and love Johnson Valley and anything else you feel relevent

Or you can also visit http://www.pirate4x4.com/letters/ to fill it out online.

UPDATE: Click here to view the first set of pictures from the cleanup. More coming soon!

Well its safe to say that the Clean-dezert.org Barstow cleanup was a complete success, from the amount of people that showed up and the mountain of trash the we gathered and removed. We would like to start off by thanking everyone who came out and volunteered thier time, and also sponsors such as: FOX SHOCKS, AEM INTAKES, CAMBURG, GLASS WORKS, IRONCLAD GLOVES, RICHER RACING, DMZ FABRICATIONS, BTF FABRICATIOINS, PCI RACE RADIOS, RRP FABRICATION,DEZERT NATION and everyone else who made this possible.

We counted 232 people who registered for the cleanup and know that there were some who showed up just to help out, and didn't get in on the raffle or rides. This was a noble gesture and appreciated by those that won some of the prizes!
Everyone that showed up was extremely pumped for this event and we couldn't have been more excited by the showing. Scott and the guys from Camburg showed up with the burg bus on Friday, and the guys from Richer racing and DMZ fab all getting there early to support the cause, thanks guys! With 20-30 people showing up Friday night, we knew we were going to have a good showing but were still a little nervous to see if our effort were going to pay-off.
When we got up Saturday morning we were greeted with a line of cars, trucks, buggies, and a Unimog and they continued to show up for more then an hour. We started the cleanup a little late due to all of the people that showed up but after they headed out, it didn't take long for the junk to start piling up at the dumpsters. As has become pretty standard in or deserts there was a lot of commercial and residential trash thrown in every nook and crannie of the Barstow OHV We did some spotting on Friday and Ray volunteered to to play rover to look for some of the worst area to give some assistance finding "junk gold" as some of the volunteers were claiming it!!!! We filled six dumpster in a little over two and half hours and could have used 5-6 more! People dragged in cars, mountains of tires, refrigerators, Couches, porn, Gallons of paint, roofing materials, you name it and it was taken from our deserts!
After the cleanup we prepared the food provided by Camburg Engineering and prepared for the raffle while the last few truck were coming back to camp! It was really cool to watch people break there backs all day, and then see some of those same people get to win some of the cool stuff that got donated. I personally noticed that the couple who came down from the Friends of Johnson Valley both won stuff, as well as one of the guys from the CORVA crew that come out.
THANKS to all of you for the support.
On Saturday night we did the usual desert fire-pit meet and greet that was topped off by the band COSTELLO from Huntington Beach playing on the back of Camburg Toter home. These guys were fun to watch and have a great sound, you should check them out if you get a chance. Thanks guys! You can check out there album on iTunes.
Sunday morning was a slow one as you could imagine, as everyone was pretty spent after the cleanup and staying out by the fire or a feverish game of beer-pong so it got off a little later then we expected (but this was a racing related event, so nobody was shocked!) We have quite a few trucks show up and would like to thanks the guys that gave all the volunteers a lap around the course! Dan Vance, Charles and Rob Anderson, Dave Leepr, Andy (green explorer) James hooligan, and everyone else who donated rides in thier vehicles.
Clean-dezert.org would like to also thank John Kavanaugh from the Bureau of Land Management for the assistance keeping this organized as well as helping to get stuff sorted out. We hope to have a long beneficial relationship with the BLM so that these events can continue to take place and having a guy like John who appreciate our efforts can only help that relationship!

Aug 16th Night race.

The biggest race of the year for the 1450 class. 40+ entered and 35 off the line. Clean-dezert decided to put fencing up at the rock pile this year to keep all participants safe as well as spectators. The last thing we need is a race truck getting squirly and taking out the crowd. With the help of a couple racers we put up roughly 400ft of fencing at the rockpile, which seemed to be a big hit. It kept the spectators off the course and also made the landing of the jump open and nice.

Clean-Dezert also rounded up a group of individuals from Dezertrangers.com to place trash cans up at the rock pile since this area was going to be hosting 400+ people for the race. Travis, Carlos, Tim, Alan & Art handed out trash bags all night long, Made sure the trash cans were being used and took care of the area. While i was busy racing they took care of clean-dezert for me. I cannot thank them enough. Sunday morning I went up to the rock pile to take down the fencing and pick up the trash, however all the trash had been removed. Thank ou again guys. Job well done.

The clean-dezert race truck ended up 5th in class out of 35+ starters. We had zero problems the whole race and rand as fast as the motor would let us. Only thing holding us back now is motor.

Lucerne Cleanup Recap

Our second cleanup of the 2008 Mini Cleanup series took place at the end of Bessemer Mine Road and Soggy Dry Lake in Lucerne Valley. This was our first cleanup in this area and we weren't completely sure what to expect. Because of it's isolated location, we were confident that there would be less large refuse, unlike Barstow which is right off a major freeway.

Sure enough, the bulk of the work involved picking up stray trash stuck in the bushes near the restroom...

2008 Mini Cleanup 1

It's been two years since Clean-Dezert has been to Barstow. Hoping to continue the tradition that started with Clean-Dezert's inaugural cleanup in December 2006, the group returned to begin a series of mini cleanups scheduled to coincide with the 2008 desert racing season.

The strategy: Rather than organizing only one large cleanup during the year, Clean-Dezert hopes to establish a consistent presence in the offroad and, more specifically, the desert racing community.
